Pulmonary Tumor Thrombotic Microangiopathy
Pulmonary tumor thrombotic microangiopathy (PTTM) is a rare clinical entity where tumor cell embolisms in pulmonary circulation induce thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA), respiratory failure, and subacute cor pulmonale. We describe 3 cases of PTTM that presented as the initial manifestation of metastatic gastric adenocarcinoma with TMA and pulmonary infiltrates. All 3 cases had similar clinical a...
متن کاملGemcitabine-induced thrombotic microangiopathy: a systematic review.
Thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) is a microvascular occlusive disorder characterized by predominantly platelet thrombi in the renal and/or systemic circulations. Haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS) and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) are the clinical entities comprising TMA, with predominantly renal manifestations in the former, while the latter more often presents with systemic and neu...
متن کاملPulmonary Tumor Thrombotic Microangiopathy: A New Paraneoplastic Syndrome?
This report, based on data from a clinical case, proposes that pulmonary tumor thrombotic microangiopathy, an underdiagnosed cause of pulmonary hypertension and death in patients with adenocarcinoma, is a paraneoplastic syndrome (PNS). Clinicians in general must be alert to the presence or development of PNS that may precede, coincide with, follow, or herald the recurrence or the primary diagno...
متن کاملDrug-induced thrombotic microangiopathy: a systematic review of published reports.
Many patients with syndromes of thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA), including thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura and hemolytic-uremic syndrome, have been reported to have a drug-induced etiology, and many different drugs have been suspected as a cause of TMA. We established criteria to assess the strength of evidence for a causal association of a drug with TMA and systematically searched for all...
متن کاملPulmonary Tumor Thrombotic Microangiopathy from Metastatic Prostate Carcinoma
Pulmonary tumor thrombotic microangiopathy is a rare but serious malignancy-related respiratory complication. The most common causative neoplasm is gastric adenocarcinoma. We report a case caused by metastatic prostate adenocarcinoma, diagnosed postmortem in a 58-year-old male. To our knowledge, this is the second reported case from metastatic prostate adenocarcinoma.
